Apple is preparing to allow third-party app stores on iPhones in Japan, ahead of the regulatory deadline imposed by the country's new competition rules. iOS 26.2 is expected to quietly enable this functionality, opening the iPhone to alternative app marketplaces.
According to reports, iPhones running the beta version of iOS 26.2 in Japan can already install and use alternative app stores like AltStore PAL and Epic Games.
