Unlocking Deeper Insights Deep Think Comes to the Gemini App

Google is rolling out 'Deep Think' within the Gemini app, exclusively for Google AI Ultra subscribers. Select mathematicians are also gaining access to the full version of the Gemini 2.5 Deep Think model, the same one that competed in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

Unlocking Deeper Insights Deep Think Comes to the Gemini App

Deep Think represents a significant upgrade over previous iterations, incorporating feedback from trusted testers and breakthroughs in research. It's designed to be faster and more practical for everyday use, whilst still achieving a Bronze-level performance on the 2025 IMO benchmark. The core idea behind Deep Think is to extend Gemini's "thinking time" by employing parallel thinking techniques. This allows the AI to generate multiple ideas, evaluate them concurrently, and revise or combine them as needed before settling on the optimal solution. Novel reinforcement learning techniques further refine Deep Think's problem-solving capabilities over time.

Deep Think excels in areas requiring creativity, strategic planning, and iterative improvements. Example use cases include enhancing web development tasks (both aesthetically and functionally), assisting researchers with complex mathematical conjectures or scientific literature analysis, and tackling challenging coding problems where careful consideration of trade-offs and time complexity is vital. In benchmarks, Gemini 2.5 Deep Think demonstrates state-of-the-art performance in competitive coding (LiveCodeBench V6) and expertise across diverse domains (Humanity's Last Exam).

Google emphasises its commitment to responsible AI development, integrating safety measures throughout the training and deployment of Gemini. While Deep Think shows improved content safety and tone-objectivity compared to Gemini 2.5 Pro, it exhibited a higher tendency to refuse benign requests during testing. Google AI Ultra subscribers can access Deep Think in the Gemini app by toggling it on in the prompt bar when selecting 2.5 Pro. The feature automatically integrates with tools like code execution and Google Search and is capable of generating longer, more detailed responses. Google also intends to release Deep Think, with and without tools, to trusted testers via the Gemini API to further understand its usability for developers and enterprise scenarios.
