Japan is taking a significant leap forward in the realm of artificial intelligence with the construction of a massive 140MW AI factory. This groundbreaking facility, hailed by Nvidia as the world's first national AI infrastructure for physical AI, is designed to accelerate the development and deployment of AI agents, digital twins, and robots.

The project is spearheaded by Noetra Corp, a private consortium largely owned by tech giants like SoftBank, NEC, Sony Group, and Honda. This collaboration signifies Japan's ambitious national strategy to integrate AI into its already robust manufacturing and robotics sectors. The AI factory will be equipped with an immense amount of computing power, featuring 13,750 Nvidia Vera CPUs and 27,500 Nvidia Rubin GPUs, all managed on the Nvidia DSX platf orm. This robust infrastructure is crucial for training the complex, open multimodal foundation models that will drive future AI applications.
The initiative is part of Japan's broader FRONTia Project, co-commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The government has committed substantial funding, with a potential ceiling of ¥1 trillion (approximately $6 billion) between 2026 and 2030, to support this physical AI ecosystem. This project aims to leverage Japan's established manufacturing prowess and combine it with cutting-edge foreign technology, particularly from Nvidia, to achieve a dominant position in the global AI robotics market by 2040.
